GPS Antenna and Receiver for Reference and Time/Date Applications

The Videotek® GPS-3904 GPS antenna and receiver option is recommended for use with the VSG-4MTG Master Timing Generator and the VSG-4TSG Test Signal Generator, for highly stable video, audio and time code reference signals and accurate time and date information. High stability is provided by the receiver’s internal, temperature controlled 10 MHz CW (Carrier Wave) output and by using the most accurate source of time used in the public domain — a system of 24 satellites that provides complete coverage in any part of the world with information on time, date and position.

Detail

A 75 ft. cable is provided for the antenna to receiver. If a longer distance cable is required, there are two recommendations:

  1. For cable runs up to 100 M, the TIMES MICROWAVE SYSTEMS LMR®-400 flexible low loss communications coax cable and EZ-400-TM (stock code: 3190-650) and Type TNC PLUGEZ-400-TM connectors are recommended.
  2. To amplify the signal between the antenna and receiver, the GPS networking LA20RPDC is recommended. The LA20RPDC is a one input, one output device with a nominal 20 dB gain block. In the default configuration, the RF output (J1) passes DC from the connected GPS receiver through the amplifier to the active antenna, allowing the GPS receiver to power both the antenna and the LA20RPDC amplifier.

The GPS-3904 receiver includes a cable to connect the RS-232 serial data for time and date from the receiver to the VSG-4CSD and VSG-4TCG. Two BNC connections provide 10 MHz and PPS (Pulse Per Second) interfaces.

There is an optional rack mount that can hold up to two receivers.
